Psalm 39:1 I said, “I will watch my ways and keep my tongue from sin; I will put a muzzle on my mouth while in the presence of the wicked.”
God created all in heaven and earth, He made the animals and he made humans. We were created above the animals (Genesis 1:28). What sets humans apart from the animals is our form of communication; we connect with each other with words which the animals do not do. That is not to say that animals do not communicate with one another they just don’t use words to do it. We use words to interact with each other, to manifest our love and devotion towards our friends and loved ones. We hold up our ideas and feeling on various topics and ways of the world.
Throughout our lifetime we spend a countless number of hours talking, it might be about something monumental or just everyday conversations with a friend. We can build someone up and make them feel worthwhile but on the other hand, we can also tear down people and cause descent and deeply injurer a person with mere words.
People sometimes do not realize the great power contained in words, we speak sometimes without even thinking about how our words might hurt someone around us even if they are not involved in our conversation.
In this 21st century, we have all modes of communication, cell phones, text messaging, computers and other forms of communication. However, no matter what form of communication we employ, whether in person, in traditional hard copy writing or through digital means we are sending a message to other people. God’s Holy Word clearly teaches us that we need to exercise great caution when we are communicating with others in any form (Colossians 4:6; James 3:8).
