Bible Verse of the Day Thursday October 10th 2019

1 Corinthians 16:13-14 Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love.

Being saved is the most critical decision that one can make in this life; it will change our eternal destiny. However, it is just as important to remain in the salvation we have received. This is not to say that there might be a chance that we can lose our salvation, but to “stand firm in the faith” means not to be blown away by every wind of doctrine. We must spiritually stay on guard because Satan is roaming around like a roaring lion seeking to shake our faith to the very core (1 Peter 5:8).

We must remain firm in who and what we believe in and why we believe. Our Christian walk is not centered around some folklore, traditions or mythology but is based upon a well-grounded faith in our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 1:24). Our belief is solely based upon what God says in His Holy Word. Too many Christians have too little spiritual stability, consequently, every new fad or writing that comes out in the world tosses them farther away from the truth of God’s Word. When a person surrenders their whole self, body, mind, spirit, and soul to Christ Jesus, God encapsulates their hearts and their minds. If a Christian fails to cultivate a spiritually healthy appetite for the study of God’s Word, along with a consecrated prayer life there will be little, or no spiritual growth seen in their lives. A Christian cannot mature spiritually with just a diet of hors d’oeuvres, we need a complete regiment of the proper spiritual vitamins and nutritions, that can only come from God’s Word through the indwelling of His Holy Spirit.

We can chart the growth of a child by the toys that they play with. A toddler is happy with a rattler while when they get a few years older a computer or smartphone will take the place of the rattler. There are many Christians out there that have been saved for many years that still like to play with the proverbial rattler, that is just not interested in a fulltime study of God’s Word. There are very few churches out there that do not offer some form of Bible Study, but too many Christians find worldly pleasures that take the place of studying God’s Word with God’s peopleThis verse of scripture tells us that this path to spiritual maturity should be done with a heart and soul filled with love. Love for God and love for all that we come in contact with. We can have this heart-filled love not because of who or what we are, but because God First loved us. Charles Spurgeon once wrote: “Do you not believe that the love that God bestowed upon the perfect Christ, He now bestows upon you and me.
