Psalm 100:4 Enter his
gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and
praise his name.
We all have so much to
thank God for each day. However, the reality is that our demanding schedules,
struggles, and worries sometimes lead us to a feeling of downfall and setback,
instead of a heart of thanksgiving. Additionally, we neglect, in our busy work
a day world, to stop and give God thanks for all the many undeserved blessings
He bestows on our lives.
There is a praise song
that is sung often in worship service across the planet. Give thanks with a
grateful heart, give thanks to the Holy One. Give thanks because he’s given
Jesus Christ His son (Psalms 9:1). God’s Holy word is filled with
reminders of the power of a grateful heart towards our Lord and Savior Christ
Jesus. Having a grateful heart will help us to keep the focus off
ourselves and on Jesus. A grateful heart will remind us that we are not in
control and that God always is. It will allow us to remain humble and dependent
on Him. As well, it will show us just how much we need Him, in our everyday
walk in life.
A grateful heart will help
us to never forget that God is the giver of all that we have in life, and that
He never intended for us to live a life of self-sufficiency. The world will, of
course, tell you just the opposite. That might stem from the mistaken idea that
some people have, that somewhere in the Bible it says that God helps those that
help themselves.
A grateful heart will
not need any grumbling or complaining. It is completely impossible to be
thankful for the blessings of God and have a heart of dissatisfaction and
griping, about the things we do not have. A grateful heart will make Satan
flee, he cannot stand to be around someone gratefully thanking and praising
God.
When I was growing up
my father would always say the blessing on the food at every meal. He would
always start the blessing off with, “give us grateful hearts Lord.” I never did
fully understand what that meant during those years. It was not until I was
saved that I realized the meaning of all of those prayers, that my Dad prayed.
This year as we sit
down with our families and loved one for our Thanksgiving meal tomorrow, let us
ask God to always give us grateful hearts for what Jesus did for us on the
Cross of Calvary, so that we might know the greatest blessing of all, and that
is spending eternity with our Lord and Savior.
