Bible Verse of the Day Friday January 10th 2020

Proverbs 1:8-9 Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.

The fact that this proverb speaks of the father, as well as the mother, would indicate that its setting is in the home rather than school or other living situations. The main thesis here is that there are no people in the world that care for someone more than their parents. They have lived through almost all of the situations that they see their children going through and try to give advice that would help their children not to have to go through the pain and suffering, that this had caused them. Solomon is saying that your parents only have your best interest at heart, they want for you the good of life and not the evil.

It’s good that parents give their children an opportunity to excel in music, sports and other communal aspects of life. However, it is of the utmost importance that they help their children grow in the knowledge of God’s Holy Word and living in the light of Christ Jesus. There was a time that the Bible was the main textbook in schools, but now some school systems are trying to get the Bible banned from schools all together. The Bible still should be the main and primary textbook at home.

We as parents have an awesome responsibility to teach our children about the love and grace of God through Christ Jesus. Some parents mistakenly believe that if they did not teach their children about the ways of God when they were young and living at home it is now too late. The truth of the matter is that it is never too late, if a person is drawing breath it is never too late to accept Christ Jesus as their Lord and Savior. We can show our adult children the love and grace of God through the way we live our lives and interact with them and our grandchildren.

Satan has dressed sin up in a package that seems like it would be exciting and fun for our children and their children. If Satan can get his evil hold on the children, he will be able to hold it through adulthood, or at least this is his primary goal. Sin might have a pleasant and satisfying taste for a season, but in the end, it will taint and ruin all the remembrances of life and leave people extraordinarily empty.

“They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.” This statement is symbolic of the beauty of parents that teach their children the ways of the Lord and help them to begin to grow as Christians so that they will know the sweet walk with Christ Jesus throughout their lives. If they happen to stray from the narrow path that leads to eternal life, they will always have the solid foundation of Christ Jesus by which they can rebuild their lives.
