Bible Verse of the Day Friday January 3rd 2020

Luke 6:27-28 But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

This command is a very simple directive to comprehend but sometimes a somewhat difficult one to put into practice. In this verse, Jesus gives us the instructions of just how to love our enemies, do good, bless and pray for those that maliciously use you. Outside of life with God, this makes no sense at all, but if our destiny is linked solidly to our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus this makes perfect sense. Throughout our walk in this life, we will inevitably encounter those that consider us enemies. Jesus is telling us to respond to them in kindness and love, placing our trust in God that He will protect us and destroy our enemies in the best way possible, by transforming them into our friends. We are not to seek revenge or use any form of violence, either physical or emotional, on our enemies. If we lead our enemies to Christ Jesus, He will capture their hearts, as He did ours, and conform their character into that of our King.

This love that Jesus is calling on us to show to our enemies is not some fuzzy warm feeling down deep in our hearts, because if we wait for that to happen, we might never show love and kindness to those that revile us. The love we are told by Jesus to show our enemies is a love that does something for them and not some feeling we might hold towards them.
It certainly does not make any sense, according to the world, that we would harbor the same feelings for someone that reviles against us as we do towards our nearest and dearest friends. What Jesus is teaching us here is that no matter what someone does to us, no matter how vile and offensive someone becomes towards us, we should seek nothing but the highest good for that person.
The primary and ultimate reason we were left here one second after we were saved is to spread the good news of the Gospel of Christ Jesus to the ends of the earth. If we give but a second of thought of how hard our hearts were before we met Jesus it will become clear that He can soften the hardest of hearts. It is not for us to decide who does and does not deserve to be granted the grace of God, through Christ Jesus. If we allow Him to be our Lord and Savior, He will use us to bring His grace and love to all we come in contact with, not just the ones we think deserve it.
