Acts 1:4 On one occasion, while
he was eating with them, he gave them this command: "Do not leave
Jerusalem but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me
speak about.
When Christ Jesus
walked out to the Mount of Olives one day after His resurrection his Apostles
followed Him as they had for the past three and a half years. Little did they
know that that would be the last time they would see Him in His physical body.
He told them shortly before He ascended back to heaven to stay in Jerusalem and
wait for the gift of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
They followed His
command and stayed in a room that they had been staying in, they were there
with Mary, the mother of Jesus, his brothers and other women. This is a
magnificent portrait of the redeemed of Christ Jesus obeying his commands and
going to God in prayer. This was the church on the earth in that day and this
small flock of about 120 people continued in worship and praise leading up to
the day of Pentecost where about three thousand were added to the number of
born again, washed in the blood followers and believers in Christ Jesus who
were united in spirit and love.
That is what we, as
followers and believers in Christ Jesus, are supposed to be today, united in
love, grace, and spirit and expectantly waiting for the promised return of our
Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. It was promised by the angel of the Lord the Day
Christ Jesus returned to His glory in heaven. There’s an old gospel song called
“I believe He’s coming back” that starts with the words “don’t just stand there
grieving for the one that you see leaving, in like manner he’s coming back for
you and me.”
The 17th chapter of
the Gospel of John is a beautiful powerful prayer from the Son to the Father
for all people down through the ages (John 17:20) that have given their
hearts and souls to Christ Jesus and accepted Him as their Lord and Savior. In
this prayer, Christ Jesus prays for unity in the Body of Christ, that all
people that are washed in the blood, born again followers and believers in Him
would be one just as He and the Father are one (John 17:21).
Our enemy, Satan, will
never cease in his attempt to hinder in and impede the unity of the Body of
Christ. He will do this by injecting false doctrine and blinding people to the
truth of the Gospel of Christ Jesus. If we try to fight him on our own it will
always result in lost battles and exasperation, however, if we adhere to and
remain grounded in the truth of the Word of God Satan has no defense. Our daily
prayers should be that God will help us, through the leading, guiding and
direction of the Holy Spirit, to remain grounded in the promise of God and wait
in heartfelt expectancy for the coming of our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, to
take His children home.
