Bible Verse of the Day Saturday April 18th 2020

Isaiah 55:6 Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near.

The theme of this verse of Scripture, reaching out to God right now, and not putting it off until tomorrow or a later date that would be more convenient for us, is found throughout the bible (Proverbs 27:1). We find this also from the book of James (James 4:13-16).

The Prophet Isaiah is trying to impress upon God’s people's awareness and appreciation of the fact that this is the time that God can be found, so seek after God today, do not put it off until tomorrow. The Prophet is not saying that God is hiding Himself and today is the only day he can be found. God can only be found when the hearts of people are persuaded to look for Him, this desire in our hearts to seek after God is a gift from God. The idea here is not that God will not be here tomorrow, He is eternal, it is that we may not be here tomorrow.

There is another thesis that can be found in this warning to the Children of Israel from Isaiah (55:6). There was a coming time, not too many years from the time that Isaiah wrote this, that the Promised Messiah would show Himself on the earth. There would be many that would deny Christ Jesus as the Son of God, and miss out on the greatest blessing of all, eternal life. If we fail to seek after God, when this gift of desire is placed in our hearts, we may very well lose some great blessing that God has in store for us. There are also many today, that lose that greatest blessing of eternal life, by putting off accepting Christ as their Savior until a later time in their life. The problem with waiting until a more opportune moment in our lives is that we might miss the very moment that God has prepared for us to accept Christ Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Since we all have an expiration date in this life and for the majority of folks we do not know when that will occur, waiting could cost us a price that we cannot afford to pay. That price would be to have to live eternally separated from God for eternity.

Isaiah is attempting to impress upon all whose eyes fall on this writing a sense of urgency. The fact of the matter is not that God is hiding and can’t be found but He can only be found when our hearts, spirit, and souls are inclined to search for Him. This inclination itself is a gift from God that expires at our last heartbeat here on this earth.

This same sense of urgency that applies to those that do not yet know Christ as their Savior is also applied to the followers and believers in Christ Jesus to share the Gospel with as many as we possibly can. This means living our lives in a manner that the lost around us might want to know more of the peace that we enjoy that cannot be explained through human or worldly terms (Philippians 4:7).
