Bible Verse of the Day Monday May 25th 2020 (Memorial Day)

John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

Today, Monday, May 25th, 2020, our country will honor the brave men and women that gave the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our great Nation. The war that saw the highest casualty count was the American Civil War with 650,000 Americans killed. World War I took the lives of 116,500 Americans and World War II claimed 400,000 American lives. The list of conflicts and casualties goes on with the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Spanish American War, the Korean War, the Viet Nam war, the Iraq War, and now the ongoing Afghanistan War. Let us not forget the brave first responders and health care workers that have put their lives on the line, many of them laying down their lives, during this worldwide pandemic that we are going through. Also keep in our minds the nearly 100,000 people that have lost their lives to this pandemic and pray for the family members that are morning the loss of their loved one.

There will come a day when no Nation will take up arms against another nation. “They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore” (Isaiah 2:4b). On that day God will rid the earth of the blight of war and inaugurate His Kingdom of peace with no end. This Memorial Day let us remember those brave men and women that gave their lives for the freedom we know in this country. Let us also remember the one that gave His life on the Cross of Calvary so that we could have an even better freedom, freedom from Satan, and sin. Because of the sacrifice, Jesus made on the Cross on our behalf we can also know freedom from death. There will come a day that every one of us will complete our mission here on this earth, but that will not be the end. Because of the freedom from death that Jesus won for us on the Cross death has no hold on us, although our bodies will return to the ground from which they came, our spirits will return to God that gave them (Ecclesiastes 12:7).

We should all be grateful for the freedom we know here in this country and memorialize the memory of the ones that gave their lives so that we can have freedom from the tyranny of an oppressive government. Consequently, we should strive to be a more responsible citizen through participation in our communities.

We should also be grateful for the freedom that Christ Jesus has won for us on the Cross of Calvary, which assures all that place their faith and trust in Him, accepting Him as their Lord and Savior, salvation, the forgiveness of sin and life eternal. We should strive to be a more committed follower and believer in Christ Jesus because our spiritual freedom is deepened through a continuing and honest confession of our sins and shortcomings along with a committed service to God and others. We thank God for the freedom we have in the United States of America and we thank God for the life eternal that God has given to us through his Son, Christ Jesus.
