1 Corinthians 1:21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its
wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was
preached to save those who believe.
In his first letter to
the Corinthian Church (1 Corinthians 1:19-25), Paul points out why we
cannot trust the wisdom of the world. In verses 19-20 Paul points out the
foolishness of the world's wisdom, and in verse 21, he speaks of people not
being able to know God through the wisdom of the world.
Since humans began to
consider the world around them, they functioned on their limited capacity to
understand life, as compared to an infinite wise creator of all in heaven and
on earth, an omniscient God. Since God created all things, His wisdom exceeds
and surpasses all time and eternity. In human's finite capacity of knowledge
and wisdom, we must depend on God for any understanding of eternal aspects of
existence. However, if one desires to understand or have any comprehension of
the relationship between time and eternity, they must humble themselves before
God. Satan will fill our hearts with pride so that we will not accept the fact
that we can do nothing on our own, and it is only through our faith in Christ
Jesus that anything becomes possible (Philippians 4:13).
There will always be
some people that attempt to get to know God through practical methods instead
of the Holy Word of God, one can only get to know and have a relationship with
God through a supernatural process. God reveals Himself to all of Humankind
through His Holy Word, which is Christ Jesus (John 1:1 & 14). We can
only know God through His revelation to humankind, it is useless and a colossal
waste of valuable time to attempt to find God through carnal methods.
People sometimes view
the Bible as just one Book that gives us instructions for life's journey. The
Bible is a library of many books by human beings, that have surrendered to God
being used by Him to bring us all we need to know to have a close and sweet
relationship with our creator, our Lord, and Savior, Christ Jesus.
Humans tend to
want to follow a system apart from the ways of God. There is the term
"kosmos diabolicus," which means traits or attributes of Satan or
Satan's ways. There is no middle ground between God's ways and Satan's ways; we
have to choose one or the other. There is no grey area of demarcation between
good and evil. There is only a delicate thin line that Satan will always
attempt to drag us across.
Satan's modus operandi
has not changed from the time in the Garden of Eden that he caused Adam and Eve
to doubt what God had told them. Satan will attempt the same thing today on
people, sowing seeds of doubt in the hearts and lives of individuals as to the
integrity of God's Word. God's system of salvation is so simple that many see
it as foolishness, it is faith and trust that Christ Jesus is the true Messiah
and Savior of the world and accepting Him personally as our Lord and Savior.
Furthermore, there is no other way to come to salvation and know a life
eternal. Jesus is the way the truth and the life (John 14:6).
