Bible Verse of the Day Sunday June 21th 2020 (Fathers Day)

Proverbs 14:26   Whoever fears the LORD has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge.

The idea for creating a day for children to honor their fathers began in Spokane, Washington. A woman by the name of Sonora Smart Dodd thought of the idea for Father’s Day while listening to a Mother’s Day sermon in 1909. Having been raised by her father, after her mother died, Sonora wanted her father to know how special he was to her. It was her father that made all the parental sacrifices and was, in the eyes of his daughter, a courageous, selfless, and loving man. In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day. For 96 Years we have been celebrating a day to honor our fathers on the third Sunday of June.
Christian parenting for Fathers and Mothers has the basis on a total commitment and surrender to Christ Jesus and His Gospel. Consequently, as parents, as Dads and Moms, we must set the example for our children and their children by walking in the light of Christ Jesus (Joshua 24:15).

We must always talk to our children about Christ Jesus and teach them from the Word of God how to structure their own lives. On a personal note, when we were growing up, my Mom and Dad had a family night every Thursday evening. We all knew not to plan anything on that evening because we were all required to be in attendance. They would read to us from the Bible and tell us about the love of Christ Jesus and field any questions we might have. We were a larger family, and my Father had to work a lot to keep us fed and clothed. I do not have a lot of memories of my Dad, but I also do not ever remember a hungry day.

As fathers and mothers, we are always in competition with Satan and his worldly ways that draw our children away from the teaching of Christ Jesus. It has always been that way from the time Adam and Eve were raising their children. This day and age, it is even more challenging to keep our children focused on a biblical structure for their lives due to the massive amount of on-line Social websites (Proverbs 22:6).

The way we live our lives can be a blessing or a curse to our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. If we always place our faith and trust in Christ Jesus and use Him as our model and pattern rather than practical examples, our children will always know the blessing that can only come for God in and through Christ (Proverbs 20:7).

Parenting is temporary stewardship, although we should always set an example for our children no matter how old or young, they are. Therefore, the best thing we can do for our children is to be a good, Christian husband or wife (Genesis 2:24).
