Proverbs 1:23 Repent at my rebuke!
Then I will pour out my thoughts to you, and I will make known to you my
teachings
There will be times
that we stray from God and find ourselves going through a trial. Since we are
the Children of God, like any good father, God will discipline or reprimand us.
This chastisement is what this verse in Proverbs 1 is teaching us. Our Lord and
Savior will carry out this discipline to draw us into a closer relationship
with Him. God does not necessarily cause these trials and tribulations; but He
sometimes allows them to happen.
The fall of humanity
brought along with its sickness, deterioration, accidents, and death. However,
God will, at times allow us to go through these trials and tribulations to rely
more on Him and not ourselves. There can be no testimony without a test, faith
that has not experienced testing through trials will not bear out as true faith
in Christ Jesus.
God will allow us to
go through trials and tribulations to bolster our faith. When we are on the
mountain top, and our life's highways are smooth and straight, we may not even
realize that our faith has grown weak. However, when times become
challenging, and we face a trial or tribulation, our faith will be revealed as
insubstantial and incapable of navigating the rough road that we find ourselves
traveling.
Nevertheless, God does
not set us on a road of testing because He is not aware of our weakness, He
sets these tests before us because we are not mindful of our spiritual
vulnerability (Psalm 139:23). God will use these times of testing to
make us aware of some spiritual weakness we are suffering from, and
consequently, we will come to our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus to help us in
our spiritual growth (James 1:2 & 4).
The same way that fire
refines fine metals our trials and testing demonstrates the real character of
our faith in Christ Jesus. Because sometimes we tend to be stubborn, this
testing is the only way that we might be humbled and brought down to our knees
and remind us that we are the children of God. These trials and tribulations
will also keep us mindful of relying on God and not on ourselves. Some
cannot get their heads wrapped around this biblical truth; nevertheless, our
faith is the trust and belief in Christ Jesus as we go through these
tests.
When we persist
unwavering and steadfast in Christ during our times of testing, those around us
who do not know Christ Jesus as their Lord and Savior, see our perseverance,
recognize the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives, and see our spiritual growth.
This example can bring others to faith in our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus.
