Galatians 5:13-14 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself
According
to President Franklin Roosevelt, December 7th, 1941 was a day that will live in
infamy. Today we look back and honor all of those that were there that day and the
many that paid the ultimate price. The Japanese military launched a surprise
attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, when many were still asleep in the early
morning hours. This one incident changed
the minds and attitudes of the United States citizens and launched us into
World War II. The brave men and women that gave their lives that day were
serving their country and had taken an oath to defend the United States, even
if it meant laying down their own lives. The liberty that we enjoy as citizens
of the United States was bought and paid for by the blood of brave men and
women on battlefields from Concord to Afghanistan.
There
is another liberty that all that surrender their hearts, minds, spirits,
bodies, and souls know, and that is liberty and freedom from the servitude of
Satan and sin. The liberty and freedom from the bondage of sin is how we
identify with Christ Jesus. The freedom that we enjoy today as citizens of the
United States is ours because of people who loved their country more than
themselves. Spiritual freedom that we know today is ours because of the
innocent blood of Christ Jesus that He shed on the Cross of Calvary.
Jesus
loves all people of the world, and He displayed that love on an Old Rugged
Cross. The freedom we know through being a Christian derives and rotates around
the love of God in and through Jesus. Only through the power of the indwelling
of God's Holy Spirit will we be able to avoid becoming yoked again by the wiles
of Satan and his evil followers (Galatians
5:1). However, it is a battle that we will be fighting
as long as we are in this life. On its surface, that scenario seems like bad
news, but the good news is that God has provided the ultimate weapon, the super
deterrent and armament for which our enemy Satan has no defense. Jesus used
this weapon against Satan when He was in the wilderness for forty days, and it
will work just as effectively today as it worked for Jesus when he was battling
with Satan in a desert wilderness. That weapon is the Word of God, the Holy
Bible.
Sadly,
too many Christians are unfamiliar with the interworking of this powerful
superweapon. Unfortunately, Satan is well versed on God's Word's interwinding,
and he knows that it is the unadulterated truth. His only defense is to
convince people that it is not worth their time and effort to investigate its
time-tested truth. Satan knows that if he can redirect our attention to some
worldly endeavor and keep our minds occupied with the pursuit of fame and
fortune, we will not find the time to spend in God's Word. Any materialistic
ambition that we strive for, that keeps us from spending time daily in God's
Word, is a fool's errand. Any worldly trinkets that we acquire in this life are
all temporary; there is no need for gold or silver in eternity. However, the
benefits of making God's Word our daily diet will nourish us not only through
this life, but life eternal.
