Bible Verse of the Day Saturday December 19th 2020

Luke 2:10 But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.

"Do not be afraid" was the first thing the Shepherds, that were tending to their flocks, heard on a stary night outside the little town of Bethlehem. Bethlehem's small hamlet was known as the city of David, where God had pledged to send to the world a Savior. God sent an Angel to announce He was about to follow through with His promise of the long-awaited promised Messiah.

The blessing of eternal life goes to all that follow and believe Christ Jesus. The excellent news delivered from God by the Angel that night was beneficial for the Jewish people and Gentiles alike. The baby born in Bethlehem that night was the long-awaited promised Messiah that would come to save all people of the world from eternal death.

The message from the Angel was the good news that night was for all people. God disclosed this most glorious and magnificent news, not to the elite of that day or the religious leaders but lowly shepherds tending their flock at night. The visit from an angel of God would have to be terrifying on its own, but then an entire host of Angels shows up and praises God.

The fear soon departed the Shepherds, but the magnitude of their encounter with heavenly beings must have went with them to the grave. The shepherds were the first humans to know of the coming of the long-awaited promised Messiah, the Savior of the World. They were also the first human beings, other than Mary and Joseph, to see the newborn Christ Child.

The saving power of Christ Jesus is still as powerful today as it was on that hillside in Bethlehem that first Christ Morning. If we will but turn our backs on the glamor and allure of the things of the world and surrender our lives to Christ Jesus, His saving grace will see us thru eternity. The account of the birth of the baby Jesus is glorious and magnificent; however, it is the end of the story, the Cross of Calvary, that saves us from eternal separation from God in an awful place called Hell. This Christmas, when someone asks us what Christmas all is about, it is about the Cross. It is about how Jesus suffered the shame, pain, and humiliation of the crucifixion to pay a sin debt for us, that we would never be able to pay.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
