Ephesians 1:11 In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will,
We sometimes have
doubts as to whether or not God is really in control. People see natural and
humanmade disasters such as great storms, children murdered, bombings, or many
other types of catastrophes and begin to question if God is mighty enough to
control these events.
Some trouble or
tribulation comes into someone's life that is overwhelming and seems to leave a
condition of hopelessness.
When these things make themselves evident, people will start to wonder if God's power is limitless or if there are things that are out of His control.
Many good Christian
people are concerned that although they know and believe that nothing takes God
by surprise and that He is really in control of the universe and all that is in
it, they still have so many questions about why God lets these bad things
happen to good people. There will come a day for all of that God will answer
all of our questions, but as long as we are in this life, we will never fully
understand the ways of God; they are above our way of thinking (Isaiah 55:9).
Even though we will never fully understand the ways and will of God, we are assured through His Holy Word that He is in full power and control (Psalm 103:19). Three words describe God, omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient.
Omnipotent (Having unlimited or universal power, authority, or force; all-powerful). Omnipresent (Present everywhere simultaneously). Omniscient (Having total knowledge; knowing everything). There is no power on this earth or beyond that possesses all of the attributes in these words' definitions. Only God has unlimited power, can be all places simultaneously, and possesses all the ages' knowledge.
When we start to meditate on all of this truth of God, it is such an extraordinary event that God, who is all-powerful. Moreover, He can be everywhere at one time and has all the knowledge of the ages, adopted us as His Children, and made us part of His eternal Kingdom. When we finally get our minds wrapped around this truth, when we accept this as part of our lives, there will be a peace that completely engulfs our souls that we could not even imagine beforehand.
There are two different kinds of people, one that knows all of this and believes it but only has a head knowledge. Then there are those that know and believe this beautiful truth of the Word of God and it affects the way they live and interact with the world, that already knows the peace that goes beyond all human understanding (Philippians 4:7).
When you get to the point in your life
that you know and accept that you will never understand the ways of God, that
nothing ever takes Him by surprise and that He is Still in Control, the stress,
worry and fear of this life will strangely fade away.
“Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, And the things of earth will grow strangely dim. In the light of His glory and grace” (Helen Howarth Lemmel)
