Psalm 126:2-5 Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.” The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy. Restore our fortunes, LORD, like streams in the Negev. Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy.
We have all have heard
many testimonies of the euphoria and peacefulness known when one finally
surrenders and accepts Christ Jesus as their Lord and Savior. We all have a
story to tell about that great moment in our lives, and it is a time that
stands out in our minds as the most significant time of our lives. We also
always remember and are euphoric as we recall times in our lives that God has
done a great miracle for us or someone we love, the times we are on the
mountain. There are times that we are in some shadowy and deep valley when God
has allowed a tribulation of some kind in our lives.
During these walks in the valley, we can be encouraged and reassured by remembering the time God had us on the mountaintop. By remembering these mountaintop experiences, we can know with certainty that God is with us while we were on the mountain, and He is also with us in the valley, "the God of the Day is still God of the Night." The Children of Israel knew immense joy in today's text because of God's great things for them.
Then in verse 4, we see them asking the Lord to restore to them their fortune, to allow them to once again be on the mountain. The request made by the Children of Israel is a clear indication that all blessings from God are a promise that there are many more to come. When we view a dry creek bed, we should see it as a flowing river. Our committed work and service to spread the good news of the gospel to the world will result in an abundant crop for our Lord and Master.
Since we can be filled with joyfulness indicates that God desires us to use that delight for the good of others, ourselves, and to bestow praise and honor on our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus. By not forgetting the time we were in the mountains, we can look ahead, remember God's faithfulness, and know that He will always meet our needs without any shadow of a doubt. The more we recognize our mountaintop experiences, the stronger our praises for our Lord and Savior will be.
