John 7:6-7 Therefore Jesus told them, “My time is not yet here; for you any time will do. The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify that its works are evil.
In the opening phase of this chapter, the
earthly brothers of Jesus were trying to get him to attend the Festival of
Tabernacles in Jerusalem. Jesus retorted to His earthly brothers that He was a
target for the Jewish leaders. He told his Half-Brothers to go on to the
Festival without him. Jesus later did go to the Festival but traveled alone and
not with a public procession. When he told them, it was not His time, He
referred to the Crucifixion that would occur some six months later (John
12:23).
Thus, He advised that for them, anytime would do. There are several references to the time of Jesus throughout the New Testament (John 2:4; 7:6, 8; 30 and 8:20). Lather in the seventeenth chapter of John, we find Jesus praying that His time had come (John 17:1).
The world did not hold hatred towards Jesus' brothers because they were a part of the world that did not accept that Jesus was indeed the promised Messiah. It was not until after his death, burial, and resurrection that his brothers did come to believe that He had been the true promised Messiah. The reason that the world held hatred in their hearts for Jesus was that His teachings exposed the world's evil. Plainly stated, the world does not like exposure to corruption among the throngs of humanity. Perfection always annoys and infuriates imperfection. Hostility and conflict against Christ Jesus will still expose the darkness in the hearts of humanity. This exposure always occurs because their hypocritical masks become removed and will reveal their true self. This exposure is particularly evident when one does not believe that Christ Jesus is the Savior of the World and the promised Messiah.
Jesus did not surrender to the world's timing but waited on the time that The Father had appointed. Jesus was only concerned with doing the will of the Father. God has a timetable set forth for all of His children, which are all that have accepted Christ Jesus as their Lord and Savior. God has a will for our lives as well, and that is to continue the ministry that Jesus began during His time on earth. His will is for us to spread the gospel to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8). Jesus did not allow the world's influence to deter Him one microscopic click off the path that the Father had laid out for Him. Christ Jesus is pleased when we follow in His footstep, using our time wisely to introduce lost people to the only way to salvation and eternal life. The only way is Jesus, not the best way or the most convenient way, but the only way.
If you are a saved, born again washed in the blood follower and believer in Christ Jesus, you have the power of the Holy Spirit's indwelling. The most significant force and power in the universe, the Holy Spirit of God, will allow us to reach out to those that need the saving grace and mercy of God, which comes only through Christ Jesus, our Lord, and Savior.
