Psalm 119:63-64 I am a friend to all who fear you, to all who follow your precepts. The earth is filled with your love, LORD; teach me your decrees.
The
Psalmist as well as we enjoy a special bond and friendship with all people who
genuinely follow Christ Jesus. This fantastic and marvelous fellowship cuts
across lines of race, class, national origin, and educational background. Once
we have experienced and begin to live in this extraordinary relationship with
others, that have surrendered themselves to God; we will feel the Love of God
that fills the entire world. Again, like the Psalmist, once this happens, our
desire, our hunger, and thirst for God’s Word will increase to the degree that
we previously have not even imagined.
This
Friendship will begin a cycle that will continue throughout this life and
beyond. The quest and search for God, through His Holy Word, will lead us to
much gratification and fulfillment, which will lead us to a more profound
pursuit of the truth through God’s Word, which will, in turn, lead us to even
more gratification and fulfillment.
1
John 1:3 We proclaim to you what we have seen and
heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is
with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.
It
is a strong possibility that the Apostle John had this verse of scripture from
Psalm 119 in mind when he penned these words from his 1st letter. John’s entire
principle of this first letter was fellowship with other believers in Christ
Jesus and fellowship with God. As Christians, we must always be alert not to
splinter our relationship with our other brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus.
Some dangerous tools of Satan will erect walls between other members and us in
the Body of Christ, envy covetousness, resentment, judging others, betrayal,
and self-interest, to name a few.
As
followers of Christ Jesus, we are all in the walk with God together; we share a
fellowship with other Christians that the world cannot comprehend. Cultivating
Christian fellowship takes work and effort, and the reason that some Christians
do not enjoy the beauty of true Christian fellowship is they are unwilling to
work at it. The faith that we as Christians share in common is eons above any
worldly social interaction. The Christians share with other Christians the
absolute truth of the Word of God. When we share what we have learned from
God’s Word, we are building Christian Fellowship to outlast this lost, dark,
and dying world where we temporarily reside.
