Bible Verse of the Day Monday July 12th 2021

Hebrews 4:13-14 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.

There is no way possible that anyone could ever hide from God. He knows what is in our hearts and our minds. He not only knows our hearts, but He knows how to touch our hearts as well, and we must all give an account of how we respond to that touch. No believer and follower of Christ Jesus will be able to miss the “Judgment Seat of Christ” (2 Corinthians 5:9-11; Romans 14:10-12; Revelation 22:12). This expectation of sure judgment of Christians should encourage and inspire every born-again believer in Christ Jesus to remain faithful to Him until we are in His presence (Hebrews 4:1; 1 John 2:28).

The writer of Hebrews says that everything is “uncovered and laid bare” before God’s eyes. It reminds us of Adam in the Garden after he and his wife had committed the first sin. They tried to hide from God but were “uncovered” and were unsuccessful in their futile attempt to escape God’s observance. Any effort or endeavor we make today to hide anything from God will meet the same fate because our hearts and souls are “uncovered and laid bare” before God. We are judged, not only by the Word of God (John 12:48), but we are also judged by God himself, we must answer to the living written Word of God and to the living God who penned it (John 6:63, 68: Acts 7:38).

Our “Great High Priest” has proved Himself Faithful by His substitutionary work for us on the Cross of Calvary. He now sits at the right hand of God and intercedes on our behalf (1 John 2:1; Romans 8:34). Our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus, is not a Hight Priest serving us only here on earth. Similar to the High Priest of the Children of Israel but is our eternal leader (Hebrews 2:3); consequently, we will follow Him throughout eternity, in heaven.

As our High Priest, Jesus added humanity to His deity and suffered the same pain and rejection that we suffer in this life. You can say to someone that you know how they feel, but you will not understand what they are going through if you have never gone through a similar experience. It makes a world of difference when you have been there. For example, on the evening news, we could hear of a shooting at a high school, and we would feel a certain sympathy for the parents of the children there. However, that pain could not compare to the pain we would experience if our child were attending that School.

This verse ends with the words, “let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.” We must remember it is not us holding the hand of God; it is the hand of God holding on to us. The writer is not telling us to hold on to God but to hold on to the faith we have in God. Satan will tempt you on an hourly basis to move away from Christ Jesus, that what you are doing for the Lord is not getting you anywhere. He will try to convince you that you would be much happier doing the things you want to do instead of following the will of God for your life. What he, Satan, does not tell you is that all the joy that fills your heart and soul, with no voids, will leave you in such a subtle manner that you may never see it coming until it’s too late. Satan has no joy in His miserable existence, and that is where he wants us to be. Everything that Satan dangles in front of us is an allusion, including the temporary allusive exultation that he tries to pass off as joy. As Helen Lemmel wrote: “keep your eyes upon Jesus, and the things of this world will grow strangely dim.”
