Bible Verse of the Day Wednesday July 28th 2021

1 Peter 1 24-25 For, "All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, the word of the Lord endures forever." And this is the word that was preached to you.

In the 23rd verse of 1 Peter 1, the Apostle speaks of the timelessness of the Word of God and how it will span eternity. These two verses, here today, are speaking of the temporal state of humans and all humans create. The grass is temporal and tenuous, like humans that do not exist in this life but a short time. James compared our secular state to a mist that is here for a moment and then gone (James 4:14). This temporary state not only includes humans themselves, but all that humans create, their writings, their great structures, their playthings, all are here today and gone tomorrow (Job 14:1-2).

Humans strut around with their pride displayed, like the tail feathers of a Peacock. They put structures in orbit around the planet and think that the world revolves around them. They believe that somehow, they have uncovered the mysteries of the universe. They put God and His Word on a shelf and only reach out to Him when times of trouble arise. We purchase a new shiny automobile, then someone next to us in a parking lot opens their car door and bangs into our pride and joy. The glory of that new car then begins to fade.

In contrast, The word of God is eternal, meaning it has no beginning and no end. So Solomon said: “Be warned, my son, of anything in addition to them. Of making many books there is no end, and much study wearies the body” (Ecclesiastes 12:12). Many books written down through the ages have disappeared along the passageways of time and history. Yet, a book has not been written that has come under attack by the world as the Bible has, yet it remains everlasting, alive, and eternal.

Since we, as humans, are so fragile and temporary, we must link ourselves with something everlasting if we desire a life in eternity. God’s Word does endure forever. Jesus said: Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away (Matthew 24:35). So, the only way that God’s Word, the Bible, can eternally benefit us is we must meditate on it daily. It must become part of who we are and what we do. The only way that will happen is if we make it the hub of our life’s wheel and not just a spoke that comes around from time to time.

A person can’t sit in a worship service occasionally and expect to be fed by the Word of God. The sermons preached on Sunday mornings are only the H’orderves; the meat and potatoes are a daily structured study of God’s Word, including corporate and group Bible Study. If we sincerely want the Bible, God’s Holy Word, to benefit our lives eternally, we must make it the center, foundation, and cornerstone of our being. It must become the primary and foremost part of who we are, what we are, and what we are to become. Only then will the Bible become of value to us and take a hold on our lives.
