Bible Verse of the Day Wednesday November 3rd 2021

Colossians 1:9-10 For this cause we also, since the day we heard [it], do not cease to pray and make request for you, that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, to walk worthily of the Lord unto all pleasing, bearing fruit in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God.

Other than this prayer from the Apostle Paul, we can find others in His writings in the New Testament (Ephesians 1:16, 3:14-20, Philippians 1:3-9, 2 Thessalonians 1:3-12). All of these prayers were for other people in the churches Paul had planted around the World. This communal prayer is a pattern that we, as Christians, should all follow. When adding to our church prayer list, we should pray for people daily, not just on Sunday. Prayer is the place from which we prepare to fight the spiritual battles we must face every day. Unfortunately, some people turn to prayer only when an emergency comes upon us or when we find ourselves in some deep dark valley. Paul's prayer here in this verse of scripture is that all people become filled with the knowledge of the Will of God for their lives.

Our daily prayers for our brothers and sisters should mirror Paul's prayers in that we pray that as followers of Christ Jesus, we accept the knowledge of the will of God for our lives. So that all followers and believers in Christ Jesus would be complete in spiritual wisdom and understanding to keep our walks worthy of the Name of Christ Jesus and bear much fruit in our ministries. God desires that our knowledge of His Word would grow and increase every day of our lives so that all believers say every day: "We are closer to our Lord and Savior today than yesterday, and we will be closer tomorrow than we are today."

Paul made it very clear that wisdom is a gift from God, but knowledge is an accumulated personal learning process through His Holy Word. We can only accomplish this through a consecrated prayer life and an intense study of God's Word, both individual and group Bible studies.

These prayers of Paul were for several things but the bottom line, where the rubber meets the road, so to speak, is that we might understand and carry out God's will for our lives and not our selfish plans and schemes. It pleases God when we walk the path that He has chosen and called us to follow. When we accept Christ Jesus as our Lord and Savior and place our faith and trust in Him, we become a new person, and as such, God expects us to walk in the newness of life. To also carry the good news of the Gospel to the ends of the earth, and the only way we can reach this goal is to allow Christ Jesus to walk and live inside of ourselves.

As God's children, we are all ministers of the Gospel; although it may not be a public ministry, we all have a prescribed mission that God has called on us to carry out. Exercising the gifts God has given us is the only way we carry out the task that God has assigned us. God will never expect more of us than what we do with the gifts he has given us. All God desires is for us to say to Him: "here I am ready to go wherever you call me and do whatever you have assigned me."  Then, when God calls us to do something, He will give us the strength and ability to carry it out; all we have to provide is the faith in Him that He will never leave or forsake us.
