Bible Verse of the Day Wednesday December 22nd 2021

Galatians 4:4-5 But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.

Through the ages, many people have added unrelated beliefs and practices in the worship of God through our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. Pagan ideas and exercises have been slowly and methodically added to the true meaning of Christmas and never examining God's Word to see if He approves. The commercial idea of Christmas is blasted into people's minds starting as early as the first of November. The stores start stocking Christmas items not long after another pagan holiday, Halloween. This misinformation puts in everyone's minds that Christmas is about gifts, and Satan has given us a reason why. He has everyone convinced that because the Wise men brought gifts to the baby Jesus, we should give each other gifts.

I do not intend this commentary to dampen the joy young children have on Christmas morning when they hurry and get out of bed to see what Santa left at their house. Instead, we have to ask ourselves what the meaning and significance is surrounding Santa. According to the world, he is, first of all, omniscient, all-knowing. What do we tell our children? He knows when you've been bad or good. The world also adheres to Santa as Omnipresent; he can deliver gifts to the entire planet in one short evening. These two Characteristics hold a reservation for one and only one, almighty God, the creator and Savior of the World.

Some say that we are being silly when we adhere to the fact that only God can be in all places at one time, knowing all things and having all power (Omnipotent, Omniscient, and Omnipresent). However, if Satan can convince people that someone besides God can possess all three of these characteristics, it will take the focus off of God and on to the things of the world. Satan does not have a chance for redemption; his eternal destiny is locked in, along with all false teachers, he will be thrown into the Lake of Fire to be tormented day and night for eternity (Revelation 20:10). Satan's primary goal is to get as many as he can to join him in his eternal torment and misery.

We, on the other hand, as children of God, have an escape from that awful eternal punishment. That is what Christmas is all about. It's not all about the gifts; it's not about families gathering around the Christmas tree; it's not about being together with the ones we love. It's about the Cross; it's about how Jesus loved us so much that He took on the shame, pain, and punishment that should have been ours. Christmas is celebrating the birthday of our Lord and Savior. He was born to die so that we might have the full life (John 10:10), that is, the life here on this earth and life eternal.
