2 Corinthians 7:5-7 For indeed, when we came to Macedonia, our bodies had no rest, but we were troubled on every side. Outside were conflicts, inside were fears. 6 Nevertheless God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus, 7 and not only by his coming, but also by the consolation with which he was comforted in you when he told us of your earnest desire, your mourning, your zeal for me so that I rejoiced even more.
In this verse of scripture, we find Paul in despair, and God brings comfort to His life. The Apostle Paul and his missionary team were coming into Macedonia to bring the Gospel of Christ Jesus to the people there. We sometimes become confronted with spiritual battles of discouragement during transition and travel. Paul tells us that their bodies knew no rest, most likely because they went by foot power everywhere they traveled. Paul and his team were leaving some serious troubling issues in Ephesus and headed for more of the Same in Macedonia. Everywhere Paul traveled, he faced conflict from the Jewish people and the Gentile community leaders. The Jews were against him because they preached salvation by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8-9). The Gentile leaders claimed he was causing unrest in the communities because of the conflict between him and the Jewish leaders.
2 Corinthians
7:5 For indeed, when we came to Macedonia, our bodies had no rest, but
we were troubled on every side. Outside were conflicts, inside were fears.
The Apostle Paul freely admits that this
conflict filled him and his team with fear. The presence of fear is not the
problem; it is allowing it to paralyze us into leaving God out of the solution.
Fear is of Satan and not of God (Isaiah 41:10).
2
Corinthians 7:6-7
Nevertheless God, who comforts
the downcast, comforted us by the coming of
Titus, 7 and not only by his coming but also by the consolation with
which he was comforted in you when he told us of your earnest desire, your
mourning, your zeal for me so that I rejoiced even more.
This verse indicated Paul's good news
from the Christians in Corinth. We should spend our valuable time tuned in to
the good news of the Holy Spirit instead of the evening news on television.
There is tremendous power in the testimonies of those who God touches that can
lead us into placing our faith and trust in the leading, guiding, and direction
of God's Holy Spirit.
Any old carnal Christian can complain, but it
is the one who receives comfort from the Father in the way He sends it and
chooses to rejoice in the things God is doing, instead of camping out listening
to all the bad things the devil is doing.
