Bible Verse of the Day Friday April 15th , 2022

 Good Friday

Why do some call Good Friday "good" when it is a particularly dim and somber occasion honoring a day of anguish and demise for Jesus? Good Friday, the Friday before Easter, is the Christian sacred day to remember the crucifixion of Jesus and His sacrifice on the Cross of Calvary. Some call it Holy Friday, Good Friday, Good and Holy Friday, and Black Friday.

For Christians, Good Friday is a critical time because it represents what Christians believe to be the most crucial weekend in the history of the world. Ever since Jesus died and was resurrected, Christians have proclaimed the Cross of Calvary and the day Jesus walked out of the Tomb to be the definitive turning point for the world. Paul declared it to be "of first importance" that Jesus died for our sins, was laid in the Tomb, and was raised to life on the third day, all following what God had promised all along in the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).

On Good Friday, we celebrate the day Jesus voluntarily and cheerfully (Hebrews 12:2) suffered and died by crucifixion as the definitive sacrifice for our sins (1 John 1:10). Two days from now, which would be three days Jesus was in the Tomb, we will celebrate a Sunrise (Sonrise) service and a celebration of the Resurrection (Resurrection Sunday). The glorious day that Jesus walked out from the Tomb and claimed victory over death and sin. A day that allows all that surrender themselves to Jesus to know eternal life.

For the good news of the gospel to affect our lives in a positive way, we must first accept the bad news of our spiritual condition. We must accept that we are all sinners (Romans 3:23) and under condemnation before God. The good news is that if we accept, by faith, the sacrifice Christ Jesus made for us on the Cross of Calvary, we can claim the victory over death that Christ won for us, and know eternal life.
