Jeremiah
23:23-24 “Am I only a God nearby, declares the Lord, and
not a God far away? Who can hide in secret places so that I cannot
see them? declares the Lord.
“Do not I fill heaven and earth?” declares the Lord.
God is questioning the false
prophets who incorrectly believe He is God in some specific location. God asks
them if they think He cannot see or know what they are doing out of sight of
humans. These false prophets believed they could impose on God, venting their
wants and desires without Him knowing it. Some people in those days and today
also think that distance of secret places might keep humans' actions out of the
sight of God. Atheism is ignorance of God and the shaky stones on which the
wicked build their lives. Some people falsely believe that God might not see
their evil actions or call them into account for their wickedness. Some
mistakenly believe that God's eyes are limited like ours, so He will not see us
in our secret places.
We cannot hide our schemes or
objectives, our deepest thoughts or desires, or our wants or works from an
omniscient God. There is nothing in the world that humans can access that will
hide even our most profound thoughts from God. Our heavenly Father fills heaven
and earth with His eternal presence and universal providence.
As surrendered followers of
Christ Jesus, He promised us more than the day of the judgment of God. We learn
from the Apostle Peter that God has promised His Children a new heaven and a
new earth. The evil world in which we live throughout our human existence will
one day end, and we will dwell with God in the new heaven and new earth. (2
Peter 3:13). Everything that we had or knew in this life, on this temporary
earth, will not be remembered or come to our minds when this life ends, and we
dwell with God for eternity (Isaiah 65:17).
There is no righteousness here
on this earth (Romans 3:10) because this is Satan's dominion. There will be no
justice for God's people here in this life on this temporary earth; our justice
will come when God destroys this earth by fire. Moreover, God has promised His
children, surrendered followers, and believers in Christ Jesus a wonderful
blissful future with Him. He made this promise, and we can hold Him to all His
promises. (2 Peter 3:9-13).
James 1:12 Blessed is the one
who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person
will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who
love him.
