Bible Verse of the Day Monday July 4th, 2022

Romans 6:6-7 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.

Today is July 4th, when we celebrate our Independence from a tyrannical King in England that imposed his will and unfair taxation on the 12 colonies in America. July 4th, 1776, was the day of the signing of the declaration of Independence, but by no means was the day we received our Independence, our freedom. That took a war that claimed the lives of 4,435 American men and women that unreservedly laid down their lives so that we could enjoy the freedom we know today.

That was 246 years ago, but greater freedom was won for all people worldwide over 2000 years ago. That day our Lord and Savior went to the Cross of Calvary to sacrifice His life for the spiritual freedom that is ours today. Any person who believes and receives Christ Jesus can experience the greatest freedom that humankind will ever know. This freedom is a freedom from the bondage of Satan and sin and makes it possible that we no longer have to live under the curse of sin or the Law. Christ came to bring the Gospel to the World and set free those captive to Satan and sin (Luke 4:18).

Before the Sacrifice of Christ Jesus on the Cross, we were in slavery to the evil spiritual forces in this World. In other words, Satan did not put much effort into getting us to do his bidding. Jesus died on the Cross, shedding His perfect, sinless, innocent blood to atone for our sins, past, present, and future sins. There is no ambiguity in the freedom we know through the substitutionary work of Christ Jesus on the Cross on our behalf. A Doctorate in Theology is not required to understand the freedom that is ours in Christ Jesus. All that is needed is that we believe that the sacrifice of Christ Jesus alone can set us free from Satan and sin and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. This process means that we turn our backs on the World and set out eyes on Christ Jesus. The term “Lord and Savior” is straightforward. He is our Savior because He has forgiven us of our sins and separated us from them, remembering them no more (Psalms 103:12). He is our Lord because we have surrendered our entire being, heart, mind, body, soul, and spirit, to Him. We have put behind our wants and desires for worldly things and said to Jesus, “I am yours, do with me what you desire.”

The sad part about this is that many never accept this gift of spiritual freedom and remain in slavery to Satan. As saved believers, we should spread the Word of God in our actions and one-on-one contact with the Lost souls around us. A shoe salesman in Chicago in 1858 named James Kimble worked with a young man named Dwight and shared the Gospel with him. That day young Dwight accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and, on his knees in prayer, said to Jesus “I will go wherever you want me and do whatever you want me to do.” That young man was Dwight Moody that became one of the greatest Evangelists in History. Dwight also established Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, which is still active today in teaching people about the saving grace and freedom in Christ Jesus.
