1 Corinthians 13:12-13, For now, we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now, these three remain faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.
One of the greatest blessings
surrounding the idea of spending eternity in heaven with God is being able to
conceive the magnitude of the love of God. As the Verse of the Day (1
Corinthians 12:12-13) tells us, now we can only see a reflection of His love,
but when we are in His presence, we will know fully of His love for us. The
eternal revelation of God’s being is more critical to us than the immediate
revelation through knowledge and gifts of prophecy. We keep our loved ones who
have gone on to the Lord in our memories through photographs. However much
these pictures bring joy to our hearts, they fall short of seeing the ones we
love in person. So likewise, we learn to love our Lord and Savior through the
pages of God’s Holy Word. However, there will be a day when we will have a
direct fellowship with Him and experience a love that we cannot describe in
earthly terms.
The Love of God is not
conditional, we can never earn God’s love, and we most certainly do not deserve
it. God’s love is not just some facet of His being projecting out from the
nucleus of His eternal being. The Love of God has no conditions; it is in His
nature (Jeremiah 31:3). God does allow specific trials and tribulations to come
our way, not because He wants to punish us. On the contrary, he will enable us
to go through these dark valleys to glorify Himself, further our sanctification
process, our spiritual growth, and be a witness to those without Christ in
their lives (Philippians 1:29).
The temporal gifts we receive
from God will fade away with earthly time. Still, God’s love is eternal because
it is His very nature (1 John 4:18). Our faith will dissipate into sight, our
hope will morph into an unambiguous reality, but God’s love will cover us
through a time with no end. God loves us so much that He gave His one and only
Son to sacrifice His life and shed His perfect blood on the Cross to pay our
sin debt (John 3:16; Galatians 2:20).
