Romans 8:14 For
those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.
This verse alludes to the glory of God that we will see every day of our lives here and for eternity. Being children of God means that we are joint heirs with Christ Jesus in the Kingdom of God. Being led by God speaks of one that is willing to be led. God does not drive his children into anything or anyplace. He gently leads them. Moses did not drive the Children of Israel to the Promised Land, He followed the direction of God, was led by God, and the Children of Israel followed behind him.
God has provided His Holy Spirit to lead,
guide, and direct us in every aspect of our lives. The only way we can overcome
our fleshly desires and cravings is through the power of God’s Spirit. Our
dependence on the leading of the Holy Spirit is the foundational characteristic
of Christian Life. The leading of God's Holy Spirit is not necessarily about
making the hundreds of decisions we must make every day, but more about the
stimulus and guidance in our life. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit in the
life of a follower and believer in Christ Jesus confirms and validates the
believer's status with God. The more we surrender ourselves to be led by the
Spirit of God, the more mature we will become in our Christian lives.
Every true child of God allows the Holy
Spirit to lead and guide their life. However, it is a decision that God will
enable us to make for ourselves; we can walk in the flesh or walk in the spirit (Romans 8:13).
It is apparent in one's life led by the spirit that they are indeed a Child of God (Psalm 118:8-9). When a person experiences the rebirth that Jesus talked to Nicodemus about (John 3:3), it becomes apparent and distinct that they are being led by the Spirit of God and not by the flesh. Paul spoke of being led by the Spirit of God in his letter to the Galatians (Galatians 5:18 & 22-23).
Those being led by the spirit of God are no longer under the chains and bondage of Satan and sin. This truth is not to say that we will not be bothered and tempted by Satan, but we will not have to fight the battles on our own. Instead, we can use the same weapon on Satan that Jesus used against him during His forty days in the wilderness, the Word of God.
When Satan tried to tempt Jesus into turning the stones into bread.
Luke 4:4 Jesus answered, "It is
written: ’Man shall not live on bread alone.’ "
When Satan tried to
tempt Jesus to worship him.
Luke 4:8 Jesus answered, "It is written: ’Worship
the Lord your God and serve him only.’ "
When Satan tried
to tempt Jesus to test God.
Luke 4:12 Jesus answered, "It is said: ’Do
not put the Lord your God to the test. "
