Bible Verse of the Day Saturday September 3rd, 2022

Psalm 62:1 Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him.

There is no definitive evidence from the Bible that this Psalm's setting was during Absalom's rebellion (2 Samuel 15-18); however, David wrote this Psalm while he was in the desert of Judah, facing treason from someone. He courageously faces his enemies, as we see in verses 3-4, but his main and significant focus throughout this Psalm is on God. It is a natural thing for humans to consider reason in a situation when we ought to believe and trust in God. We instinctively want to work out our problems on our own when we should be still and let God work.

Time stands still for no one, and the trials and hardships we will face will continue twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The only rest we can ever know is if we give our problems to God and get out of His way. Then and only then will we find rest for our souls. But, unfortunately, the exercise of rest is elusive for some in our modern work-a-day world. Proper Godly rest does not have to be obscure and impossible to attain; we only need to comprehend what adequate rest is. The writer of Hebrews gives us an excellent example of appropriate Godly rest (Hebrews 4:10-11).

Jesus has made it crystal clear that the only way to salvation is through Him (John 14:6). The Gospel of Christ Jesus is unambiguously clear about salvation by grace through faith and not by any works we might do (Ephesians 2:8-9). Still, people want to think there is something they can do to receive salvation. These acts of self-work include baptism, following a specific set of rules, belonging to a particular denomination, speaking in a language unknown to humankind, and the list goes on and on.

David knew that his salvation came from God and that there was nothing he could do to assure an eternal life in God's kingdom. Therefore, from the beginning, faith and trust in the promised Messiah is the only way to be saved. Before the Cross, it was a belief in the promise of the coming Savior, and since the Cross, it is the belief in Christ Jesus as the true Messiah, the true Savior of the World.
