There are many famous
lists that people strive to have their names attached to. Dunn and Bradstreet
is one of the most famous; if you are listed there, it says you are very
successful financially. Numerous social registers worldwide are sought after by
those who want to gain acceptance in their circle of friends. Heads of state
and other public figures work diligently to get their names in the history books;
some settle for a mention while others strive for an entire chapter.
One of the most startling revelations I ever encountered was when I discovered I was lost and on my way to hell. One day, a pastor I had recently met showed me the Roman's Road to Heaven. I was stunned to find out I was a sinner (Romans 3:23; Romans 3:10) and that there was a penalty (Romans 6:23) for that sin, death. Not the physical death we all must go through, but a spiritual death separated from God for eternity in a dreadful place called hell.
Pastor Dan Grey said that was the bad news, but he brought some good news. First, he showed me in the Bible how God demonstrated His love for us in that although we are sinners, Christ died for our sins (Romans 5:8). Then, he brought me the most exciting news I had ever discovered. He showed me in the Bible that if I were to call on the name of the Lord, I would no longer be lost, but I would experience salvation from the everlasting separation from God (Romans 10:13).
One day this earth will burn along with every component. Then all the financial or social lists and the history books will be insignificant. The only Book that will matter will be the Lambs Book of Life. Is your name written down in the Book of Life? If it is not, God will turn you away from all that is holy and banish you to the eternal fires with Satan and his followers (2 Peter 3:10).
Before my salvation, I had never even heard about the Book of Life; I had no idea what the rapture was or that Christ Jesus was the only way to the Father. I grew up in a home that taught that to be with our Heavenly Father in the hereafter; I would have to follow specific denominational rules and be a member of a particular church. If Satan is deceiving you with that lie or one like it, you can break free this very second by accepting that we are saved by God’s grace through faith and not by anything we might do or any church we might be a member of (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Don’t be fooled by another lie of Satan that you have plenty of time to take care of that or that you will be able to be saved after your time here on earth is done. When you breathe your last breath here, your eternal destiny will not change, your name will be in the Book of Life, or it will not. God has promised us forgiveness for our sins, Christ shed His precious blood to atone for our sins, and when you call on the name of the Lord, God saves you. However, God has not promised us a tomorrow to surrender ourselves to Him.
