Bible Verse of the Day Tuesday November 22nd, 2022

1 Samuel 3:8-9 A third time the LORD called, "Samuel!" And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, "Here I am; you called me." Then Eli realized that the LORD was calling the boy. So Eli told Samuel, "Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ’Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.’" So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

There was once a young seminary student named Sam that was a great prayer warrior. He would sometimes pray in his dorm room late at night, so loud that it would keep his fellow students awake in the dorm rooms around Sam. One student devised a plan to curtail some of Sam's late-night prayer sessions. They placed a PVC pipe link in Sam's room's ceiling and the other end in the adjoining room. That night when Sam was praying loud and long, someone yelled into the pipe, Samuel. When Sam heard that, he dropped to his knees and said: "Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening." The reply came to Sam, get to bed; your roommates are trying to get some sleep.

God speaks to us through the indwelling of His Holy Spirit at certain times during our walk. So that we might hear the message that we are receiving, we must keep our receptors clean and clear. The messages we obtain will most likely not be as audible as the ones that young Samuel received, but the message will be there, nonetheless. If we wait for some dramatic revelation in the middle of the night with a host of angels singing choruses of Amazing Grace, we will miss all of the subtle guidance of the Holy Spirit of God. The messages God sends us, through His Holy Spirit, will come as a whisper. There will be times that we are searching for an answer to a Bible question, and the place in God's Word where we need will be in our minds without us even realizing how it got there. God spoke to His Prophets of old in numerous ways, but today, He speaks to us through His Son, Christ Jesus, the Word of God. (Hebrews 1: 1-2; John 1:1 & 14).

The answer to every question and the solution to every predicament we find ourselves in is found in God's Holy Word. However, God's Word is not an instruction manual that we pull out only when we cannot find the answer. Instead, God's Word should be as much a part of our day-to-day living as breathing. The more familiar we are with God's Word, the clearer we will hear the messages from God through His Holy Spirit.
