Bible Verse of the Day Friday December 16th, 2022

Acts 5:15 As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter’s shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by.

On the Day of Pentecost, when the Apostle Peter preached the first sermon, about three thousand people gained salvation. After that, many people came to Christ daily as the number of followers and believers in Christ grew. The Apostles healed many sick and afflicted people during those days. For example, Peter and John healed a cripple man at the temple entrance one day, and he jumped up, went into the Temple courts, and began praising God (Acts 3:1-11). Peter and John grew in popularity among the people, so much so that the Jewish leaders jailed the two apostles and released them the next day. Later, Peter was thrown in jail, but the prayers of the early believers summoned an Angel of God that released Peter. However, many wanted healing but did not want to place their faith and trust in Christ Jesus as the true promised Messiah.

Regrettably, many pagan fallacies and other unbiblical exercises were creeping into the beginning of the new Christian Church. One of these false beliefs was that the shadow of a holy person, some part of their clothing, or even their handkerchief had the power to heal or bring good luck. Of course, there is no magical formula to true Godly healing, but this false doctrine of healing laid the foundation for the heresy that is still around today.

The Apostles advanced pre-Cross teaching of the coming of the Messiah to post-Cross education of salvation for all. During this, the Holy Spirit led the Apostles to write what was to become the New Testament. The early believers and followers of Christ Jesus had much to learn during the transition from Law to grace. There was a new entity coming forward through the love and grace of God through Christ Jesus called the Church.

As modern-day followers and believers in Christ Jesus, we have much to learn from the history of the beginning of the Church as recorded in God’s Word from the New Testament. There is much in the writings of Paul, Peter, James, John, and the other authors of the New Testament that we should be reading and studying every day. As familiar as we think that we might be with the New Testament, every day we spend in prayer and study of God’s Word, New or Old Testament, God will have something new and fresh for all who commit to regular and consistent Bible Study.

Sadly, many people do not take the time to study the Bible and rely on what they hear others say. There is a treasure of immense value in the pages of the Holy Word of God, but the only way it can benefit us as individuals is if we dig for it ourselves.
