James 4:8 Come near to God, and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
The
foundational characteristic and attribute that make up our lives is faith.
First, you visit a physician whose name you have never heard of; they give you
a slip of paper written in Latin that you have no idea what it says. Then you
take it to a drug store and place it in the hands of someone you have seen
before, who gives you some medicine you cannot even pronounce, then you go
home, and without hesitation, you swallow the pills; that my dear friend is
faith.
Some
say I have too many biblical questions to surrender to God. However, the odds
are that you may never give your life to Christ if you wait until all of your
questions get answered. F.B. Myers once wrote: "Unbelief puts our circumstances
between God and us. However, faith puts God between us and our
circumstances." If we knew the truth, very few would not want the creator
of heaven and earth between them and their circumstances.
Many
want faith to come down to them like a bolt of lightning, but that will never
happen. Paul's writings to the church in Rome tell us we know faith by hearing
the Word of God (Romans 10:17). If you want your faith strengthened daily, make
the study of God's Word and prayer part of your everyday life. God promised
that He would draw near anyone that comes near Him, but it must be with our
hearts and not our heads and mouth only (Matthew 15:8).
A
double-minded person attempts to give part of themselves to the world and a
piece to God. Double-mindedness will not allow one to draw near God because our
Lord and Savior seek those devoted to Him with all of their heart, mind,
spirit, body, and soul.
If
we choose not to draw near God, Satan will fill the void, and we will find
ourselves following Satan's worldly and carnal ways. However, if we resist
Satan, he will have to flee from us (James 4:7). If one chooses not to submit
to God, it will be impossible to resist Satan. We will linger on under his
domineering and oppressive influence and control. However, if we choose to draw
near God, He will draw near to us, and Satan will have to flee. (1 John 3:8).
