1 Thessalonians 5:10 He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him.
As
followers and believers in Christ Jesus, we will never spend one heartbeat away
from God. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is the assurance that no matter
what physical state we find ourselves in, our spiritual state will not change,
and God will never leave or forsake us. Jesus died on the Cross of Calvary so
that we will be with God now and eternally through our faith in Him. Our meek
and ingenious minds will never be able to comprehend and grasp this glorious
truth of the Gospel.
The
absolute truth is that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23), and
unquestionably, you and I are all sinners that deserve eternal separation from
God for eternity. However, when we surrendered our lives, hearts, spirits, and
souls to Christ and, through faith, trusted in Him, we were set free from the
sting of death, and just as the grave could not hold our Savior, it cannot keep
us either. As washed in the blood, saved followers, and believers in Christ
Jesus, we will miss the Great White Throne Judgment (Revelation 20:12-13)
because The Father judged the Son on the Cross for our sins (John 5:24-25;
Romans 8:1). All saved believers will stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ
(2 Corinthian 5:10; Romans 14:10) to give account for what we have done with the
new life God has given us in and through our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus.
Death
for a believer and follower in Christ is portrayed here in this verse as sleep.
The physical death all people must go through, in the believer, is when our
physical body goes back to the dust from where it came, and our spirits return
to God who gave them (Ecclesiastes 12:7). The child of God does not have to
fear death because when we expel our last breath in this life, we are
transferred into the next life with Christ Jesus in heavenly places. Although
the world views death as an end, it is for the saved believer in Jesus. Still,
a continuation of eternal life is promised us because of the substitutionary
work of Christ Jesus on the Cross of Calvary on our behalf.
There
is a line in an old Christian Hymn that says, "what a glorious day it will
be when my Jesus I shall see." The very instant we close our eyes in this
life, we will be awakened in the presence of the one that loves us as no one
else can. We love our family and friends, and in turn, they love us, but in our
finite minds, we cannot even conceive or imagine God's love for us. He proved
that Love when He sent His one and only Son to suffer and die on the Cross of
Calvary for us so that we might have eternal life (John 3:16).
