1 Timothy 1:18-19 Timothy, my son, I am giving you this command in keeping with the prophecies o made about you, so that by recalling them you may fight the battle well, holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith.
Paul was Timothy's spiritual mentor in the ministry; the
great Apostle genuinely cared about his young protege. Paul spoke truth to
power in Timothy's life, and Timothy had someone on whom he could bounce ideas
off. This verse reminded Timothy of what God had called him to do and remain on
God's path. We all need someone walking the path ahead of us who can exemplify
how we should carry out God's will for our lives.
Timothy gladly and cheerfully looked to Paul in what he was
doing to further the Gospel; all followers and believers in Christ Jesus need
people to whom we give account. Paul was well aware that Timothy was
struggling, and he encouraged Timothy. Paul reminds Timothy of the Prophetic
messages announced for his life and that he could use them as weapons against
Satan's evil forces that plague our lives—keeping in our minds and hearts the
account of Abraham and his battle concerning the promised son, as he ascended
Mt. Moriah to sacrifice Isaac to God. We should never forget the sacrifice
Jesus made on our behalf on the Cross of Calvary as He looked ahead and saw all
of us. All born again washed in the blood, followers and believers should
always focus on the promises God gave us through Christ Jesus that have shaped
our lives into sinners saved by grace.
There is a special place of remembrance that all followers
and believers in Christ Jesus should visit when our paths become rocky and our
seas rough. That is where God first spoke and sealed us to Him for eternity.
These promises and assurances from God through our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus
will become a sword in our hands to fight the battles with Satan, which we will
encounter daily. As we grant God and devoted Godly brothers and sisters in
Christ Jesus to speak into our daily walk with God, we have a significant edge
for victory in every battle we encounter.
