Mark 14:62 "I am," said Jesus. "And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven."
The
Temple guards took Jesus into custody in the Garden of Gethsemane after the
Chief Priest had paid Judas to aid in His capture and arrest. This kangaroo
court happened not long after the "Last Supper," where Jesus had
delivered His final sermon and set up what we celebrate today as Communion. The
religious leader took Jesus to Caiaphas, the current High Priest, that had
convened an illegal "kangaroo court" to bring charges against Jesus.
Several witnesses falsely testified against Jesus, distorting the truth, and
misconstruing the words that Jesus had spoken during His earthly ministry.
However, Jesus did not respond to any false charges they brought against Him.
Hoping to muster some fraudulent charges against Jesus to hand Him over to the
Romans for crucifixion, Caiaphas asks Jesus directly, "Are you the
Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?" (Mark 14:61).
Jesus
answered the High Priest this time with a response that shocked Caiaphas and
all that were there to their very core. Jesus used the title Moses had heard
from the burning bush, "I Am," which could only point to Heaven's
eternal God. Jesus also revealed some important information surrounding His
second coming, "And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand
of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven" (Mark 14:62).
This
evil generation of Israelites had missed all the signs of the Promised
Messiah's coming, prophesied by all their Prophets. Consequently, they missed
the blessings that were supposed to be theirs. However, there will be a day
when a future generation of Israelites will believe that Jesus was and is the
Promised Messiah and look to Him for their salvation.
On
that glorious day, the believing Children of Israel and those who have placed
their faith in Christ Jesus will be raptured away to be with Christ Jesus
forever. Therefore, as we await the imminent second coming of our Lord and
Savior, Christ Jesus, let us all be an example to the world that He is the only
way to eternal life and surrender ourselves to Him so that we might be good
reflectors for His light that shines out to this lost, dark, and dying world.
