Romans 5:10 For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!
Imagine
going to the Gas station and filling your car or truck with gasoline using your
bank card. Then when you got home, there was a message from your bank in your
e-mail asking you to confirm a gas purchase of $38,613,759,564. Now imagine
that you do not have some 38-odd billion dollars in the bank; there would be no
way you could ever pay that debt. We all have a sinful obligation that we must
pay, but as the example of the 38-billion-dollar gas purchase, we will never be
able to pay our sin debt (Romans 3:23; 6:23). The word “enemies” in this verse
of scripture indicates that we are at enmity with God as lost sinners. We can
never reconcile that situation through our merits, no more than we could ever
expect to pay that 38-billion-dollar debt.
This
point is where it becomes so awesomely overwhelming that Christ Jesus suffered
and died on the Cross for such a wretch as I. Jesus did not die for the
righteous people because there are no righteous people that exist on the earth
(Ecclesiastes 7:20). All people that are born again washed in the Blood saved
believers and followers of Christ Jesus enjoy reconciliation to God through the
sacrifice of Christ Jesus on the Cross of Calvary. So likewise, God reconciled
us to Himself through the death of His one and only son on the Cross (John
3:16).
Now
we get to the central theme of this verse of scripture. Since God reconciled us
while we were all in hostility to Him, imagine the level of love He is
outpouring to all who have accepted Christ Jesus as their Lord and Savior. The
eternal life of Christ Jesus is our assurance of eternal life with the one that
loves with everlasting love. Unfortunately, some out there falsely believe and
teach that the saved sinner must maintain salvation. There might be a sliver of
possibility to that false thesis if we could do something to earn our
salvation. However, that is not the case because we are all sinners and always
fall short of the glory of God; furthermore, there is no righteousness in any
human that has ever lived, is living now, or will ever live. (Romans 3:10;
3:23).
Christ
Jesus will always intercede for His children and advocate for us before the
Father (1 John 2:1). He will do this for as long as we are in the flesh and
will continue to be our glorification for all time and eternity.
