Galatians 6:1-2 Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.
In this verse, as in many verses in Paul's writings, he refers to his
readers as brothers and sisters, indicating his target audience is saved
born-again believers in Christ Jesus. Those caught in sin are believers that
have fallen out of fellowship. Restoration of a Christian that has fallen into
some trap of Satan should happen with tenderness and kindness. We should never
go into the act of restoration of a fallen believer with the idea of punishment
but to gently help them back into God's good graces.
God's grace in Christ Jesus is the powerful but gentle force that God uses to forgive our sins. We are all debtors in our sins and owe a sin debt that we will never be able to pay. The grace and mercy of God provide a way for us to make good on our sin debt; that way is Christ Jesus and His sacrifice on the Cross of Calvary on our behalf.
As followers and believers in Christ Jesus, we should scrutinize ourselves so that we do not fall into the same trap of Satan we are trying to help a brother or sister escape. All of God's children stand on the dangerous edge of the cliff of temptation and risk falling at any time. As mature Christians, we are supposed to bear our other brothers' and sisters' burdens in Christ which is an act of Christian love, and even though we cast all of our cares on Christ Jesus (1 Peter 5:7), we should always be ready for other believers to cast their cares on us. How many Christians go into church with the idea of: who can I be a blessing to today (Peter 3:8-9; 1 Peter 4:9-10)?
Discouragement is one of Satan's favorites and most used tools. For this reason, we must continually sound the trumpet of encouragement. All people, Christians included face problems and trials of every brand of trouble. We can always cast our burdens on God because He promised never to leave or forsake us. However, God wants His children to be able to cast their burdens on each other as well.
