Psalm 41:11 I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me.
The
last thing Satan wants is for the children of God to fully realize that God's
favor is upon them, that we have been blessed by Him and given all the good
things that we enjoy in this life. Satan does not want us to believe God does
anything for us in this life and the future. The evil one will tell us lies
that we have no purposefulness, competence, or potential. If that does not
work, he will attempt to readjust our thinking and point to failures in our
past and shattered dreams. If we fall into this trap and snare of our enemy,
our self-esteem will bottom out, and we will not believe that God has blessed
us in magnificent ways.
Jesus
deprived the evil one of his powers over us by the Cross, and He wants us to
deal with attacks of Satan by the Cross. Satan was publicly defeated when Jesus
sacrificed His life on the Cross so that we might live and have life to the
fullest. Too many people unnecessarily worry about attacks of Satan and his
demon followers. Some even believe that Satan has some mysterious power by
which he can salvage our walk with Jesus.
We
should always understand that no matter how uninspiring our achievements are or
how limited our successes have been, everything we have comes from the love and
grace of God through Christ Jesus. All blessings we enjoy are possible only
because Jesus is on our side. David, who wrote the psalm that is today's Verse
of the Day, understood that the people attacking him were doing it because they
could see the great favor of God on his life. To understand why the enemy is
coming after us, we must also understand that his attacks are because of God's
marvelous blessing on our lives. If we ignore our enemy, Satan, we will not
expect his attacks and fail to trust Jesus to overcome him through the Sword of
the Spirit, the Word of God.
There
is only one way to fully trust in God's Word to overcome the attacks of our
enemy. We must know and understand what God is teaching us through His Word. If
we place our faith and trust in what others say about God's Word, Satan may use
others to close our eyes to the truth. God's Word is the only weapon we need to
defend ourselves from Satan and gain ground in our walk with our Savior.
