Psalm 116:1-2 I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy.
Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I
live.
No application of love in our lives would be possible without
God having loved us first. Our love for God and other people happens only
through His love for us. God's love is the motivation for our love; He loved us
at the immense cost of sacrificing His Son, Jesus, for our salvation. God loved
us first before we loved Him, He took the initiative that empowered us to love
since He put His love within us. He provided the loving mechanism. When love is
absent in the human realm, it shows an absence of love on the divine level. The
love of God is what makes human love possible; all true love is because of
God's resourcefulness. Our love for other humans is not through our desire; God
instills a passion for love in our hearts and souls. Our capability for love
spiritually rests on something more significant than we have within ourselves;
it is in response to God loving us first.
Our love for our brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus
authenticates our love for God. Imagine someone in our Christian life who is unreasonable or
disagreeable, who will do anything to make our Christian walk rough and bumpy.
We must remember that God loves them the same as He loves us. When we concern
our hearts with God's amazing and wonderful love towards us, we will never get
hung up on any animosity that we perceive from someone else. God loves us even
though we were unlovely, so we must always love the unlovely ourselves.
There is an unchallengeable relationship between God's love for
us and our love for others. It is simpler to love a detectible human person
than love an invisible God. However, if we succeed at the more straightforward
task, following through with the more complicated task will be
possible. Sometimes when one professes their love for God, it does not
necessarily mean that we truly have a love for Him. We need to safeguard
against a profession without authenticity. The claim of love without the
authenticity of love indicates that we do not fully comprehend nor experience
the love of God. We suppose that we love, but we do not even understand true
Christian love.
Some can profess to love God and do not exhibit that love toward
our brothers and sisters in Christ. Such counterfeit spirituality fails to live
up to true communion with God. Love for Christians is not elective but
mandatory in God's eyes. The action of love commences with God Himself;
consequently, if we find ourselves on the outs with one or more humans,
Christians, or non-Christians, we are on the outs with God. Our love for others
is in direct proportion with our love for God; it is irrelevant what we claim
to do; if our love for our fellow human beings fails, then we are liars in
God's sight.
