1 Timothy 4:2 Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.
This verse describes those that have departed from the
legitimacy of the gospel of Christ Jesus. Furthermore, it points to people
eager to encompass untruth or fabrication to justify their sinful lifestyles or
egotism. This untruth also speaks of the false teachers and preachers who
eagerly embrace falsehood to rationalize and validate their sinful lifestyles
and prideful existence. This verse of scripture also alludes to the ones that
claim to be teaching the Bible but are attempting to hold up their philosophies
or schemes.
There was most likely a time in their walk with Christ that
this departure from the truth of the Word of God would have seared their
conscience. However, their exodus from God’s truth now does not phase them.
Symbolically, fire has burned the nerve ending of their conscience, and they
are dead to their following of Christ Jesus. This debate is not about black or
white or Monday or Thursday; it is all about the evil of humankind seeking
God’s favor by such trivialities and creating idols to worship, in the place of
the one true God.
In Paul’s first letter to his young missionary partner, he
informs him that the Holy Spirit of God warns us that there will be an
inundation of teachers of evil who will attempt to feed God’s flock with the
lies of Satan. The Apostle Paul warned Timothy and, by extension, all of us
today that many would foolishly follow these false teachers and get on board
with their satanic folly. Many teach this day in age that when the Bible speaks
of “Latter Days” or the “End Times,” it is speaking of only the time we live in
today. However, when the Bible talks of “latter days,” it points to the day of
Pentecost and continues until God raptures His Children from this earth.
God warns us throughout His Holy Word of the wiles of
Satan, who, in addition to prowling around like a hungry lion, seeking to
consume all that he can devour, will appear to us as a beautiful, enticing
Angel that will deceive believers in all the earth. The closer we get to the
promised second coming of our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus, the more extreme
the deception of Satan comes after followers and believers in Christ Jesus, and
the Word of God.
As members of the Body of Christ we probably face the most
significant challenge in History. Satan is using people who claim to be preaching
and teaching the truth of God’s Word when unknown to themselves; Satan is using
them to draw people away from the simple gospel of Christ Jesus to a prosperity
gospel. The most significant problem is that too many Christians fail to spend
any time in daily Bible study, which makes the false teacher’s job, sanctioned
by Satan, much easier to deceive people.
It is bad enough when someone is preaching or teaching the evil of Satan because they do not understand biblical standards and principles, but another thing altogether when a person intentionally and consciously goes into the ministry with the intent of deceiving believers, for no other reason than to fill their coffers with more gold and silver. Many of the New Testament epistles, in detail, warn against this apostasy in the days leading up to the second coming of Christ Jesus.
