Romans 15:8 For I tell you that Christ has become a
servant of the Jews on behalf of God’s truth, so that the
promises made to the patriarchs might be confirmed.
How
did the great God of heaven and earth who created it all humble Himself and
become a servant to Israel? How does the omnipotent, omnipresent Lord of all
become a servant to the Jewish nation? How could God's Anointed, who is above
all, overall, and sustains all, place Himself in a position of such inferiority
towards His people? How could it be that Jesus became a servant to the ones He
created, even though He knew they would loathe Him, turn their backs on Him,
condemn Him, and nail him to a Cross?
The
Apostle Paul gives us the answer. Christ became a servant to the people of
Israel to show the genuineness of God. The Savior of Israel became a humble
reverend to the Jewish people to let them know God was straightforward,
trustworthy, empathetic, and benevolent. He became a servant to them to confirm
to His people, Israel, that God's promises to their forefathers are faithful
and true. The Apostle Paul demonstrated or painted a picture of a very merciful
and compassionate God who sought not to discriminate but bring the world, Jews
and Gentiles, together to love Him, serve Him, praise Him, and worship Him that
Jesus the firstborn of God Almighty shall reign over all. He did this because
He is merciful and loves all His creation.
If
you are a non-Jew, know that you are not a secondary Christian or second to any
child of God. You are a child, just like every other person. The promise to the
fathers, God's truth that Christ came to minister, is for the Jews, but through
our faith in Christ, it is for all of us Jews and Gentiles alike. God has been
merciful and compassionate to us all in that what He meant to be for a few
people is now available to the entire world. If the world should believe in
Jesus and come to Him, they will also have a share in the promise to the
Fathers.
