Bible Verse of the Day Tuesday September 5th, 2023

Luke 24:39. Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have.”

Spiritual essence is immaterial or nonmaterial. Spiritual beings are not “made out of” material stuff. In other words, our spiritual side does not consist of atoms and molecules and the elements of this world. Jesus made this point when He said, “A spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have” Luke 24:39 Some make much of the fact that Jesus said His body had flesh and bones and not the more normal phrasing of flesh and blood. The idea is perhaps the resurrected body of Jesus did not have blood and maybe neither will ours. It is possible that Jesus said flesh and bones because they could not feel his blood but could discern the bones by human touch.

Since God is spirit, He also is nonmaterial; His essence is entirely different from the physical. To the Samaritan woman, Jesus pointed out that one does not have to go to any mountain to worship God, as if God’s presence were localized there as if God had a physical body that could only be in one place at a time.

What about all of these people in the Bible who claimed to have seen God? The first time is in Genesis 3:8- “Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day.” This description leads us to believe that this was not the first time God had come to walk and talk with Adam and Eve. They must have seen Him and talked with Him regularly. From time to time, God took upon himself a human form to manifest Himself to various persons. Such manifestations are called theophanies, or appearances of God. In this way, the Lord, whose spirit is invisible to our eyes, could be seen temporarily in a concrete form.

Humans are conscious of others, and they enter relationships with others. For instance, when the Bible describes God as love (1 John 4:8), this implies interpersonal relationships; This describes God as personal. We are told in Matthew 22:37 that we are to love God; He tells us to relate to Him personally. Since relationships are started and carried on by communication, this points to the fact that God speaks and that our communication with Him is in the form of words. This miracle is accomplished through God speaking to us through his Holy Word and our communication with Him through our daily Prayer.
