2 Corinthians 3:17 Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, as those sent from God.
This verse of scripture is a section of a passage
concerning the use and misuse of the spiritual gifts from God. Every church
member is unique in the sight of God, and together, we are all His chosen
instruments on earth, by which He makes Himself known to humanity. We are God's
delegates on earth during the dispensation of the Church, and Paul explains
that every member receives their distinguishing gifts and exclusive ministry.
Each exhibition of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers is for the mutual
edification of every Christian. We do not all receive the same spiritual gifts;
every ministry is unique yet varied. Spiritual gifts, elected vocation, and all
the good deeds that God has equipped us to do come from the same Spirit for the
glory of God and the benefit of the entire Church.
Paul is trying to communicate an eternal wellspring, that
the same spirit functions in the lives of all followers of Christ, but
different gifts and spiritual exhibitions are disseminated to each
individually, as God chooses. He is no respecter of people, and He alone
allocates the specific skills and spiritual graces to each person. In this
framework, Paul is explaining that although we are distinct members of His
Body, we are all one in Christ Jesus. Though we all have exclusive gifts,
graces, and ministries, we are all members of the same Body with one solitary
purpose. Although our facilities and churches are distinctive to each believer,
they should supplement one another.
The spiritual Body of Christ is a precise image of our
physical human body. It comprises numerous parts, bones and ligaments, organs,
and muscles, along with undisclosed and unrevealed areas. Each member is essential
to the total. Each carries out different purposes with distinctive
responsibilities, yet all conjoin to assure the efficient, sophisticated, and
smooth implementation of the whole.
On the Day of Pentecost, the church became a living entity.
It was on that exceptional day that by one Spirit, all believers gathered in
the upper room went through a spiritual baptism into the Body of Christ. All
consumed the same spiritual food and drank from the identical living fountain.
All were positioned into His Body "by the one Spirit." Throughout the
Church dispensation, when a sinner receives salvation through faith, they are
removed from their position in Adam and baptized into the Body of Christ by the
same Holy Spirit.
What an honor it is to be a member of the Body of Christ
because we all partake of the same Bread of Life, drink from the same Living
Water, and experience the same Spirit of God. We all have the same indwelling
Holy Spirit and partake of the same spiritual benefits. We all have the same heavenly
inheritance; the Lord Jesus Christ loves us equally.
