2 Thessalonians 3:3 But the Lord is faithful, who shall establish you, and guard you from the evil one.
The
Apostle Paul illustrates two qualities of God’s faithfulness here in this
verse. First, He will establish us, which means that He will strengthen or make
fast our walk with Him (Luke 22:32 Acts 14:22). The text verse for today also
says that He will guard us against Satan. The idea that this picture paints is
Christ Jesus standing guard, defending us from the flaming arrows Satan will
aim at the soft recesses of our hearts. We will always be fortified and
protected against any trials or tribulations. The more truth we have in our
spirits and souls, the more stable we become because of the faithfulness of
God.
This
faithfulness will inspire in us a sense of trust and faith that will itself
bring about stability because we know He is faithful to His Word (Numbers
23:19, 1 Corinthians 10:13). Satan knows our silver bullet offenses, the ones
that truly separate us from a total enjoyment of the Holy Spirit. We will never
lose the indwelling of the Holy Spirit because our salvation is guaranteed by
the truth of God’s Holy Word. However, when the ways of the world begin to fill
our desires instead of the ways of God, there will be a symbolic fog that will
block the leading, guiding, and direction of The Holy Spirit. During these
times, our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus will be there, but in choosing Satan’s
path instead of God’s path, Satan and his evil forces will have an easier time
convincing us that the world has more to offer than God. Anything that Satan
dangles in front of us, the worldly ways, is temporary and brief. Although
these material things, fame and fortune, are being offered to us by Satan, he
has no intention of providing them to us. Always remember what Christ Jesus
said about Satan (John 8:44).
Everything
promised us through the Holy Word of God is the absolute, unadulterated truth.
Our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus, will always be there to shield us from the
flaming arrows of our enemy, Satan. All we have to do is hold tight to the
shield of faith, buckle the belt of truth, secure the breastplate of
righteousness, and be fitted with the shoes of the gospel, wearing the helmet
of our salvation. This is our defense from the attacks of Satan through which
we can stand our ground. Moreover, to move forward in our walk with Christ
Jesus and to grow in our spiritual life, we must take up the Sword of the
Spirit, which is the Word of God (Ephesians 6:13-17). Make the study of the
Bible an everyday part of your life, and never turn down an opportunity to
study the Bible together with God’s people.
