2 Corinthians 4:18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
I read somewhere that "just because our eyes see all
they can see; we assume they see all there is to see." The point that the
unknown author was making is that there is always more going on around us than
we can see, hear, feel, or touch. Furthermore, believers in Christ Jesus
sometimes focus only on what our physical senses tell us without realizing that
there is much more unseen going on around us in the heavenly realm.
There is a story in the Old Testament about the servant of
Elisha waking up one morning and seeing the enemy army surrounding them and
going into panic mode. (2 Kings 6:14-20). Elijah's servant thought his
master was insane for being so calm until Elisha prayed and asked God to open
the spiritual eyes of his servant, which God did. At once, the servant saw the
Army of God surrounding them and encircled around the enemy's army. Only after
God opened the spiritual eyes of the servant could he see the glory of God and
his protection of the prophet and all that was with him. The Apostle Paul was
considering the protection of these angelic armies and other unseen protections
of God when he wrote to the church at Colossi.
Colossians 1:16 For
in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and
invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things
have been created through him and for him.
Our physical senses are not only incomplete but are also
unreliable and easily deceived. Our physical vision will mislead us, and that
is the reason the Apostle Paul's advice in today's verse of the day is so
critical for all believers in Christ Jesus to heed. Paul's exhortation in
today's verse is not that we should ignore visible dangers around us but to
keep our faith in God and the truth that He will never leave or forsake us. We
should always remember that natural evidence is only sometimes the complete
realm of evidence. In God's truth, the biological evidence is not always the
complete picture of the reality around us. As a matter of God's truth, the
natural evidence will bend to the authority of the spiritual evidence, as verified,
and substantiated by every miracle recorded in the Holy Word of God. We should
never evaluate our situation on physical evidence alone because there are always
more than our physical senses can see, feel, or touch. In closing, we should
never make the mistake of giving up when we don't see Immediate answers to our
prayers and believe that everything will stay the same.
