Matthew 13:15 For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise, they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.’
Have you ever been through a
day that everything you said was wrong, or at least taken wrong by your family
and friends? Our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus did have some of those days. He
spoke with clarity to His closest followers, His disciples, about the coming
kingdom of God and his future reign. Most of them did not understand because,
for years, they had been looking for a political Messiah that would free them
from the chains and bonds of Rome. Jesus did not fit the mold that they had conceived
for themselves so many of His followers, even some of his disciples, were very skeptical.
That was made very clear at His ascension when they ask Him if he was going to restore
the kingdom to Israel. Their spiritual ears and heart were not surrendered to
Jesus to the point that they could comprehend his mission here on earth. It is possible
they were so centered in Jesus freeing them from their Roman captors that they missed
His true mission altogether.
Acts 1:6 Then
they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to
restore the kingdom?
The heart of Israel was in a sorrowful
state of being so that it was dulled and not sensitive to truth, they were impervious
to revelation. The term closing of one’s eyes in this case was a manifestation
of refusing to hear and believe the truth that was standing right in front of them.
Jesus would not heal their nation without repentance towards Him. The healing
as spoken of here is a spiritual healing.
Some of Jesus’ followers were
blessed because they had a positive volition towards him and His mission on earth.
God blesses those this day in age with a positive volition towards His Holy
Word. The problem arises when there are so many interpretations of the Bible. Some
today establish their own views of what God’s Holy Word speaks of by misinterpreting
the scripture. This is a very dangerous undertaking because there are many warning
of this in the pages of God’s Holy Word.
Revelation 22:18-19 18 I
warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If
anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues
described in this scroll. And if anyone takes words away from this
scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the
tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.
