Christmas Eve, Oh Holy Night
Luke 2:7 and
she gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him
in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
It
is no accident Jesus stepped out of eternity and took on humanity for us. The
Bible tells us that God knew before creation ever began, that He would send
Jesus Christ to save us from our sins (Ephesians 1:4).
Isaiah 7:14 Therefore
the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and
give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel.
A virgin birth was necessary for Jesus to become our perfect
substitute on the Cross of Calvary. Jesus was not born in sin; there was no
sinful nature in Him (Hebrews 7:26). The virgin birth of Jesus avoided the transmission of the sin from an earthly father and allowed Jesus, God in the flesh, to become a perfect sinless man. Without the virgin birth there would be no hope or possibility of salvation. We needed someone fully human and completely sinless to stand in our place, to take the punishment we should have paid because of our sins. A sinful human cannot die for another sinful human so they may enter
All Humanity was lost, and Hell bound after the fall, we could not save ourselves; we had no hope because no amount of good works can ever earn heaven. God knew this, and that is why He determined to come Himself. Jesus, the eternal God of the universe, stepped out of eternity and took on Humanity. He did this so that we may live through Him. Jesus, who is entirely God and fully man, became our perfect substitute to take on the penalty of our sins. Jesus took on Humanity without losing His divinity; Jesus Christ is one person who is ultimately God and fully man. Jesus' two characteristics, human and divine, are inseparable; Jesus' Humanity and divinity are not integrated but united without losing either.
