Psalm 142:5-6 I cry to you, Lord; I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.” Listen to my cry, for I am in desperate need; rescue me from those who pursue me, for they are too strong for me.
We have all heard the old saying, “The straw that broke the
Camel’s back.” Often, the load is not the problem; Camels can carry heavy loads
for long periods. When David reached the bottom, he cried out to God because he
was in desperate need. Before we reach the bottom, there are some things that
God wants us to know. We must first realize we are not “Superman” or
“Superwoman.” We must recognize our pressure-release junctures to prevent
things from reaching the boiling point. Mismatched tableware at the Church
weekly dinner will not usher in the end of time. Not getting the monthly
meeting reports on time will not cause the church to fold. In other words, we
should lighten up on ourselves and not get overly concerned about the small
stuff.
One of the first things we must do is understand and
realize our limits. Our Lord and Savior did not attempt to minister to every
person in Israel; that’s why he had disciples. We must recognize that we cannot
do it all and that others in our sphere of influence are there and ready to
carry some of the load. We must have some downtime, or some “me” time built
into our daily schedule. The daily grind will cause us to become overly
stressed, but a few minutes of quiet time with God daily will be refreshing and
allow us to refocus our spirits.
One of the most difficult words for us to say sometimes is “no.”
It is not difficult to say no to some painful medical procedure, but to say “no”
to someone that has come to us to help with their load is sometimes difficult. God
will never say “no” to us when we go to Him with our daily overloads, He is always
there to calm our spirits and help us make the right decision that will keep
our lives in balance between the world and our surrender to Christ Jesus.
