1 Corinthians 10:3-4 They all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ.
I read a story once about two men riding across a rough and
rugged range of mountains on horseback. They came upon a massive, swift-flowing
river; the older and more experienced man told the younger man to remain
focused on the large rock on the opposite bank. The older rider told the
younger not to focus on the swift running water of the river because it would
create dizziness. The older man reemphasized his command to keep his eyes
focused on the immense rock and not on the river's running water. As they began
to ride out in the swiftest part of the river, their horses began to get very
nervous as the river's cold water showered the men and their horses. As the
older man got very close to the opposite side of the river, he looked back and
saw the younger man focused on the running water and taking his eyes off the
immense rock on the opposite bank. The younger man finally took his focus off
the running water and on the large rock, and soon, they were both safe on the
other side.
Life has many trials and tribulations in all shapes and
sizes. We all suffer daily scuffles, struggles, and problems. Sometimes, our
problems are more severe and seek to overwhelm us. We experience sickness,
disease, hardship, financial, legal, and family issues. There will always be
struggles and hard times that come in all sorts, shapes, and sizes. At times,
the swift current of our troubles becomes rough, and the current becomes
challenging to fight against. We will go through sickness, financial problems,
and family hurdles, to name a few.
God is not our enemy; Satan is! As followers and believers
in Christ Jesus, we must yield and submit to God and stand against Satan, our
adversary, to reach the Rock of Ages against the swift current of worldly
influence. Satan will come at us from all directions to convince us to focus on
the river current of our problems instead of keeping our eyes on the solid Rock
of Ages. Satan knows that if we concentrate exclusively on the swift current
around us, we will lose our proper perspective and become out of balance. Then,
we will fall short of achieving the purpose of God for our Lives.
Some followers and believers in Christ Jesus fall into
anguish and despair and blame God for the evil that Satan is doing to injure
and destroy us. Although we must not ignore our difficulties, we must always
focus on the solid Rock of Ages and ignore the swift current of Satan's attack.
