Bible Verse of the Day Thursday February 15th, 2024

Jerimiah 2:12-13 Be appalled at this, your heavens, and shudder with great horror, declares the Lord.  “My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.

Where do we turn to have the thirst of our soul satisfied? Without any question, many addictive habits and sins occur when someone pursues worldly things to satisfy the thirst of their souls through some method other than seeking God. He is the only spring of true, lasting refreshment, gratification, and contentment. Let us seek after God, knowing that only he can gratify the yearnings of our souls. All other things we pursue in place of God and His blessings leave us scorched and empty of the water our souls need!

Eternal life functions much like a fountain that is always in motion. There is a fountain at the entrance of an industrial park close to where I live. Every time I pass the intersection where the fountain is, it catches my attention. That could very well be the purpose of the fountain’s location: to catch the attention of passersby.

God’s promise of eternal life contains a supreme power that changes anyone who accepts its power. The promise of eternal life has the power to change any person. That is why the person who drinks eternal water, salvation, will never thirst again. Eternal life possesses intrinsic power and there is no need to attempt to build it up on our power. It resides within our hearts, minds, bodies, spirits, and souls from the heartbeat we receive Christ Jesus as our Lord and Savior. It is something that God bestows upon His children. Water can only move by gravity or some mechanical force but living water bubbles up independently without any external power.

We cannot gain salvation from any worldly source. God will enter the expecting heart and abide there for all time. We will not need to drink eternal water again because it lives in our souls forever. The water that Jesus offers gratifies our longings and quenches all thirst. Jesus’ water infiltrates our heart, mind, body, spirit, and soul. His water functions within us eternally because supernatural energy at work performs with undiminished vigor in our hearts and souls. The life Jesus gives brings a person to a new state of being. It is the entrance into eternal and abundant life (John 10:10). Let us thank God today and everyday for providing the eternal living water through the indwelling of His Holy Spirit that satisfies every longing within our hearts, minds, bodies, and souls. Let us also ask that through the Holy Spirit we might see the deceptiveness of every false source of satisfaction, so that we can find his true fountain of eternal life.
